What does 80 Percentage royalty mean and how is it calculated?

Overview

We appreciate your interest in understanding how royalties work. When we say "80% royalty," it means you will receive 80% of the profit earned from each sale of your book—not 80% of the book’s listed price.

Why not the full listed price?

The listed price of a book includes several built-in costs such as:

  • Printing cost

  • Platform fees (Amazon, Flipkart, etc.)

  • Packaging and handling

  • GST and taxes

  • Distribution and return charges

  • Required platform discounts (usually 25% to 50%)

Your royalty is calculated after all of these costs are deducted.

Example

If your book is listed at ₹150 on Amazon:

₹150 – (printing cost + platform discount + fees + taxes + other charges)
Then, you receive 80% of the remaining amount as your royalty.
